In this 22-minute video Dr Lauren Ward at York University and Dr Ben Shirley at Salford University provide an update on their work on Object-based Broadcasting, and putting the user in control, over the last 4 years. Their work with BBC Research and Development on experimental programmes including Casualty is also covered. 
Their work offers significant improvements in accessibility for people with hearing loss and new research directions are touched upon, but it will still be some years before all the necessary elements in the broadcasting chain are sufficiently available for it to be introduced as a norm for example as stereo is now.
